A day with Oxfordshire Wolves SEND Rugby
Darren Rea in our Sales team is an award-winning coach for Oxfordshire Wolves SEND rugby. This year, Darren used his volunteer day to support the Wolves during a special event with players and coaches from Le Plaisir du Mouvement (LPM). Playing rugby the LPM way encourages you to think quickly, play confidently and use agility, speed, and skill rather than brute force to create rugby that is a joy to play and watch.
What began as a day of coaching and sharing ideas quickly evolved into something more significant.
“SEND rugby is an inclusive, adapted version of rugby designed for children and adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND),” said Darren. “There was a remarkable alignment between the LPM philosophy and what we’re trying to achieve through SEND rugby. Giving players ownership, allowing them to make decisions, explore and, most importantly, enjoy the game,” he said.
Making a difference beyond the workplace
One of the standout moments of the day came when the Oxfordshire Wolves players performed a haka and the LPM team embraced it and joined in.
“It was one of those moments where you realise inclusion isn’t about changing the player to fit the game. It’s about creating an environment where everyone has a meaningful place in it,” said Darren.
At Intertronics, we believe volunteer days are valuable precisely because of experiences like this. For Darren, the opportunity to support Oxfordshire Wolves SEND Rugby was deeply rewarding.
“Intertronics didn’t just give me a day away from work,” he said. “They gave me the opportunity to put my time and experience into something that matters to me and hopefully make a difference to others.”
